DAY 1:
Arrival at the bus terminal in the city of Huaraz. Transfer to the town of
Chancos where we will visit the thermal medicine baths.
Welcome in the Andean host house: Then we will go to the assigned host house
provided by the viscosina family. We will install ourselves there and our
adventure will begin.
Farm Work: After a great welcome prepared by the host family, the head of
the family will take us to know the chakra (the fields), where he will teach
us how to remove the potato fields – activity named aporque. We may also
help cut the wheat with a sickle, and then we will tie the tersos up, some
of which can weigh 40 kilos, and take them through a sinuous path to the
place where they are threshed, hit and wound. Later, to recover our energies,
we will taste typical dishes from the area such as fried trout, potatoes and
chili pepper.
Textile Technologies: During the afternoon we will choose and collect plants,
seeds, leaves and tree barks for elaborating natural dyes, learning the
secrets to give color soft balls of wool from professional artisans with
more than 18 years of experience.
Learning to make bread: While the sun goes down, we will learn to make bread
in mud ovens, and the rural women will kindly offer us some papakshki (potato
soup) or beans cream. Or we will simply try some delicious cachangas with a
comforting cup of coffee.
Storytelling by night: We will get snared in the mystery of the Andean
landscape and hear attentively the tales and legends local people give life
to. The whole place blends in with the pleasure of resting under the starred
sky, which is so typical in these pollution-free areas.
DAY 2
Hiking to Deep Ravine: We will get up really early to begin our adventure,
but after having a special breakfast made by our host mother, who will bring
us bread fried with bee honey and a steaming cup of wheat-coffee. Then, we
will go hiking to Quebrada Honda, where the fullness of the White Range
beauty can be cherished with its marvelous snow-capped peaks with heights
over 19,690 ft. and many others very difficult to be climbed even by
professionals. To renew our energies, we will have a picnic that includes
bean salad, fried beans, cancha (fried corn), plenty of chicha morada and
herbal water.
At the end of our trip we will return to the rural house where we will have
a lonche (meal between lunch and dinner) and then, we will go to bed.
DAY 3
Walk to Ichicqueta:
Traditional breakfast with the family, walk to Ichicqueta, the Viewpoint,
Hornocuta, and Pishcupunta; during our trip, we will stop to have a picnic
and enjoy the Happy Hour, where we will share our experiences of past days.
At the end, we will come back to the host house.
Farewell
When the sun sets, our hosts will indulge us with a farewell party including
typical food and music from the area. There, we will taste the traditional
and famous mate de coca, and taking notice of the insurmountable beauty of
the White Range.
At the scheduled time, we will go to the city of Huaraz to take the bus to
Lima.
The price for each additional night incluyes full meals for that day
